Joe Coutts is a self-taught wood sculptor and naturalist who finds inspiration in the natural world.
His unique style has developed over a long period of time. It allows his work to stand out in both the wildlife and furniture genres. The steel armatures that hold these pieces together give a light and airy look combined with strength of structure. Themes of flight and motion as well as the use of metaphors and representational motifs are common in his work.
Coutts’ sculptures can be found in public, private and corporate collections throughout Canada and USA. His work has been featured in magazines such as Fine Woodworking, Wildlife Art and Wildfowl Carving and Collecting and has exhibited in many prestigious shows including the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Birds in Art Show. Joe is a member of The Society of Animal Artists.
Joe has completed a commission to do a series of tables titled the Four Seasons Suite. This piece consists of four tables, one for each season of the year: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. See the Furniture page for pictures.
Joe also participates in both the Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishings Show and the Fine Furnishings Providence Show.
Joe enjoys the challenge of custom orders and commissions. He is well known for delivering pieces that surpass even his clients' original visions.
