THE FOUR SEASONS SUITE: FOUR GLASS TOPPED TABLES
The suite is designed to give the impression of walking along the bank of a stream. The variation in this stream is that all four seasons can be seen in it’s entire length. If the tables were circled the carving would become the outside edge of a pond that is divided into quadrants. Each quarter is visually connected by subject matter, colour and design to represent a single season.
SPRING
The Spring table has four irises in the center of the structure, these hold the glass in place. In turn the irises are standing on panels that represent reflected water over a base of flowing water weeds. The carved panels are set up at various heights to allow the idea of depth in the stream. The early spring flood can be seen in a gental flowing motion but the top of the piece is a little more wind blown and chaotic giving it a wild and free feeling.
The fallen bulrush on the left of the piece is the end of winter with new growth springing up around it There is an incoming flight of birds placed in this area and on the right hand side of the piece are water lilies that help to lead the eye into summer.

SUMMER
The summer table is slower moving and is suggesting a hot and dusty day. The table is lower and there are far fewer water panels giving the piece a dryer look. With this carving the tiger lilies are stretching for the sun and the stone beach is baked and dry waiting for the next rain.
The water lily on the left of the table is surviving in the last of the spring flood while the blowing leaves on the right are being caught in the first gusts of autumn.

FALL
Fall colors are very reminiscent of the colors of Spring and Summer, the colors of flying leaves reflect the flowers of the other seasons. A flight of birds are leaving the area as the leaves are falling from the trees.
The transition from one season to the other is more obvious in this table. The Summer end is open and flowing while the fall end is closed with frost lace and the beginnings of ice and snow reminding the viewer that Winter is setting in.
